Tibetan Spaniel is a small, active and alert little dog, whose origin is connected with Tibet, so called „The Roof of the Worls“. This is a mystical country with very hard life condition for people as well as animals. The Tibetan spaniels, also called tibbies, used to share life with the monks in the monasteries and with other people in their homes. They used to serve as watchdogs barking when something unusual was happening and also as companions on trading journeys. It is obvious that the tibbies brought from Tibet to nowadays their ability to adapt to ideas and lifestyle of their breeders. They can lie hapilly in their liar, they rush to be ready for announcement that someone is coming... Tibetan spaniel would walk with you if you are keen on hiking, they can train agility as well as canisterapy.

The TIBETAN SPANIEL is most charming breed with very distinctive personality. This highly intelligent little canine is typically aloof with strangers. This does not mean to have neurotic nature. He is just naturally wary and suspicious. This is a noble and proud breed that does not stand rude treatment. The Tibetan spaniel will not blindly obey your orders, he has to do everything with pleasure. However, when you gain his trust, he will be your devoted and happy friend, very sensitive to your mood. He is very friendly towards his human family, wants to protect it and seek the company of family´s members. He does not initiate dog battles , but he does not escape, and when necessary, he is ready to face even big breed dogs...From Tibet they brought their liking of sitting as high as possible, and from top places they can observe surroundings for hours. It has been said that the Tibetan Spaniel is „part cat, part dog and part monkey“. This is a fitting description of a breed that possesses the faithfulness and watchfulness of a dog, the curiosity and independence of a cat, and not least, the mischievous behaviour of a monkey. The Tibetan Spaniel is often described as a big dog in a small body. At training and upbringing it is important to be patient, consistent and it is necessary to praise the dog (can be with some reward). Punishment is contraproductive. The Tibetan Spaniel will appreciate if he is treated gently and sensitively, and if training will include teaching like playing a game. The breed of Tibetan spaniel is not suitable as defence dog, he is never aggressive. As a reserved dog towards strangers, however, he is a good watchdog anyway. He will announce you the visitors with barking. But these dogs are far from barking and yaping incessantly. Your neighbours may like your tibby, too...

General look. The Tibetan spaniel is an elegant breed and has, in comparison with other tibetan breeds for example, easily kept coat. Usually it is enough to comb his coat once a week properly. This dog is suitable to outside hard conditions as well as to luxurious home. The Tibetan Spaniel has a double coat, the top coat is of silky texture and the undercoat is fine and dense. Back part of his thighs are covered with longer hair (trousers). Very expressive is tail, set on high, carried over the back and with rich and long hair. Regarding coat colour, all colours or mixtures of colours are permissible. Many Tibetan Spaniels are sable, from cream, golden to even red. Other colours can include black, white or silver-gray, also parti-coloured or black-and-tan. At various breeding combinations there can be variously coloured puppies in one litter. The proud head of Tibetan spaniel breed is quite small in proportion to the size of the body, which is rather longer than the dog is high. The Tibetan Spaniel eyes are dark brown, oval in shape, bright and expressive. The nose should be black. The ears are high set, medium size. Rather special expression of this breed is that the mouth is just slightly undershot. This means that the lower front teeth are set a little forward of the upper ones. The teeth and the tongue should not be seen when mouth is closed.

Tibetan Spaniel is happy being in constant contact with the family. So it is suitable to breed this dog in the flat. His lair should be in a calm corner without draught. He can have a rest there or observe the happening in the family. Tibetan Spaniel is a good friend of children too. This companion dog brings with his charming look, kind and merry personality a lot of pleasure to a man.
